1 Month Old

By the time that Aubrey was just one month old, she had already accomplished some pretty big things...

She had slept through the entire night...and I'm talking an entire night...for at least six straight hours. It only happened a couple of times, but all of our friends and family just couldn't believe how lucky we were to have such a good sleeper.

She could roll from her back to her tummy...at least when she was on a mattress. Brad didn't believe it the first time he saw her roll over...so we put her on her back again and just watched...and after a few minutes, she rolled over again!

She started to follow objects with her eyes...toys that we were holding, her bottle, and even Charger.

2 Months Old

Aubrey had already hit such important milestones in her first month that we weren't sure what she would be able to do in the second month, but like always, she impressed us...

She tried to reach for objects around her...especially Charger's tail! She also liked to try to grab her bottle and reach for her toys that we were holding.

She started to sleep in her crib in her own bedroom at night. We decided that she could sleep in her own room when she was about six weeks old. She was sleeping through the night pretty regularly, so it just seemed like the next step.

She started to smile...not just at us...but at anyone who paid any amount of attention to her at all. She loved to smile at everyone...especially Charger.

3 Months Old

By the time that Aubrey was three months old, she was already starting to act like such a little girl. She always seemed so much older than other babies her age...at least to us...and at three months of age, Aubrey had accomplished several new things...

She started to smile at objects around her. Though she was always happy, she started to show a preference in her favorite toys...her favorite people...and of course, her favorite dog.

She could hold on to her toys...though it was almost always with her left hand. We thought for sure she would become a "lefty!"

She began to recognize her bottle...and when it was time to eat. When we would put her bib on her before we gave her a bottle, she would always get really excited...like she knew exactly what was coming next. She also started to hold on to her bottle at almost every feeding. It was so adorable...both of her pudgy little hands wrapped around that bottle...holding on like it was her favorite thing in the world.

4 Months Old

Aubrey surprised us so many times in her short life with the different things she could do. Between the time she was three months old to four months old, she started to do several new things...

She continued to smile at everyone...but started to smile at herself. She loved to look at herself in the mirror every morning as I got her dressed...and she would get this great big grin on her face...almost as if she was smiling in approval.

She also started to giggle. When Aubrey laughed, it was the cutest thing in the world...and when she got really excited, she would let out this really high pitched squeal. We could just about guarentee that she would squeal in excitement when she was playing in her exersaucer or her jumper...two of her favorite toys.

She rolled from her back to her tummy...again! She had proved her strength when she rolled at just a couple of weeks old, but she never did it again until she was just about four months old...and now, she almost never stopped. She loved to roll over...but she got so irratated once she was on her tummy and couldn't roll back over to her back.

5 Months Old

During Aubrey's last month with us, it was no surprise that she continued to grow...both in size and in the different things she could do...

She started to pick up toys next to her and hold on to them. She could even transfer her smaller toys from one hand to the other. The first time we saw her do this was over Labor Day weekend. Her Grandpa Sherrick had bought her this little giraffe rattle and while she was on the floor playing with it, she dropped it...picked it back up...and moved it from one hand into the other.

She had found her feet...and loved pulling on them...and her socks...all the time! She usually pulled on her socks so much that they hung right on the edge of her feet...though they never fell completely off.

She figured out how to roll from her tummy back over to her back. She had always enjoyed rolling over from her back to her tummy...but just never had the strength to roll back around...so we had spent a lot of time flipping her back over. It was nice when she figured out how to do it on her own...and she usually didn't get as irratated about being on her belly anymore.

WE'LL NEVER KNOW by Lora Willows

We'll never know...when you would have started laughing.
Would it have been cute? Would it have been funny?
We'll never know.

We'll never know...when you would have started crawling.
Would it have come easy, or would it have taken practice?
We'll never know.

We'll never know...what your favorite baby food would have been.
Would it have been fruits? Or maybe vegetables?
We'll never know.

We'll never know...what your first word would have been.
Would it have been "mom," or would it have been "mommy?"
We'll never know.

We'll never know what or when any of your firsts would have been...
from sitting on your own to riding a bike...
from your first day of school to your first crush...
from your first day of driving to your first true love.
We can only dream and imagine...because we'll never know.

We'll never know...what God's plan is or why He took you from us...
why He felt that He needed you more than us.
We'll never know...what the reason you're gone is...not medically or spiritually.
SIDS has no explanation and God hasn't given us one yet either.
We'll never know...at least not during our life here on earth.

What we do know is that we miss you terribly...
and that because you're happy and safe in heaven,
you'll never feel the pain of life on earth...
the pain we know.

Because we'll never know...
